Shio Kombu, or salted kelp, is a Japanese pantry staple that punches well above its weight. Small in size but big in flavour, it brings a deep savouriness to any dish it is added to.

One of the best things about Shio Kombu is how easy it is to use. No rinsing, no soaking, no prep needed. Just add it straight into your dish, and it does all the work for you.

Do note that Shio Kombu already comes salted, so go easy on the additional salt when cooking with it. Taste as you go and adjust accordingly.

We'd especially recommend using it in our Cold Angel Hair Pasta with Truffle Oil, Hokkaido Scallops, Kombu & Uni recipe, where it is tossed through the pasta to bring in that umami depth that ties the whole dish together.
