Mizuame / Sweetener Syrup 水飴
Mizuame (literal translation is Water Sugar) is a clear, thick, sticky sweet liquid made by converting starch to sugars, much like honey. It is mostly used in Japan for Wagashi to give them a nice sheen.
It is also used in Korean savoury cooking. (Mulyeot in Korean)
